Today we took MLTU to the doctor for her annual check-up. As expected, she is in perfect health (especally since her alergies have cleared up now that we live in a house with radiators not forced air) and she's exceeding all her big developmental steps. That's my girl.
MLTU told Dr. L all about her bowling party (yes, we had a bowling party for a four year old and IT WAS AWESOME) and enumerated the names of her friends who came. She introduced Dr. L to her brother, and then we reminded her that Dr. L knows DMTU very well. In the middle of the appointment she grabbed my arm and in a concerned whisper said "Dad, I don't think Dr. L knows that we moved to a new house." I assured her that he did.
Dr. L asked a bunch of questions including "Does MLTU know the difference between girls and boys?" Funny he should mention that, because just the other day she turned to Em and said, "Mom, we're girls, right? And Daddy and DMTU are boys."
We got home, ate dinner, ran around and Em left for yoga. I played with the kids some more, then told them it was time for bed and shepherded everyone upstairs. MLTU immediately went to her room and slammed the door. DMTU knocked and the following transpired:
FAU: MLTU, can we come in?
MLTU: NO!
FAU: Why?
MLTU: Read my door. [Her name is on her door.] It says MLTU, it does not say Daddy or DMTU!!
FAU: But Mommy is out so we all need to read stories in your room.
MLTU: NO! No boys are allowed in my club. You and DMTU are boys, only Mommy can come in because she's a girl.
FAU: But your friend CB was here today and he's a boy. Did he get to play in your room?
MLTU: [No response]
FAU: MLTU??
MLTU: Read my door!!!
She eventually let us in and we read stories and went to bed, but the process to get there was hi-larious.
Oh, and she can get undressed and into her pajamas (including picking out a matching pair) all by herself.
And so...it has begun.
I will be sure to let her know you are really a girl next time I see her!
